When I started Trafalgar Lighting working from my parents garden shed in the early 1980s I set out to be a local theatrical lighting hire company. I started with 4 lanterns, a bit of cable and an overdraft. Now we count lanterns in hundreds, cable in 10s of kilometres, only the overdraft has remained the same.

We have become a true one stop shop able to supply stage and architectural lighting, sound equipment, video projection, stage curtains and tracks. We hire out equipment, we sell equipment, we design systems and installations, which we than have the capacity to install. No longer restricted to theatre,we are a major supplier to the education & retail sector's in the UK and further afield.

Several years ago we opened a web shop expecting to sell a few sheets of filter and a light bulb or two. We knew a little bit about Stage make up and added that as well. 5 years later www.backstageshop.co.uk has its own warehouse and staff and is probably the largest web based supplier of stage, film and special effect make up.
